





Tan Keng Hong was born in Batu Pahat, Malaysia in 1975. He started learning music at the age of 4 at the behest of his musical parents who are a tenor and a harpist. He had lessons on the violin and electone (electronic organ), and won the 12th Malaysian Electone Festival Encouragement Award in Kuala Lumpur n 1984.
In 1985, He started to study the harp with his mother, Judy Lee. After 3 years of study, he won the first prize in the second Malaysian Harp Competition, and became the leader of a harp ensemble, which has made regular performances in Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan.
Keng Hong’s first successful recital was held in the Nanyang Auditorium in Kuala Lumpur in 1993. Since then, he has been invited to perform in numerous charity concerts. His performances have also been broadcast on radio and television. In 1995, he continued his studies with Professor Frank Sternefeld at the Royal Northern College of Music in UK. He won the Yamaha Foundation of Europe Scholarship 1998 Competition held in London, the RNCM Saloon Prize in Manchester, and was a finalist in the Franz Josef Reinl International Harp Competition in Vienna. Currently, Keng Hong is the Co-Principal harpist of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra.
